Modern storage technologies: Cooking with Ceph In the world of Octopi and Squid, don’t be frightened by software defined storage. Attend this lab to get a better understanding of SUSE’s scalable and resilient storage solution based upon the open source Ceph technology. Get a glimpse into the future of large scale storage that incorporates intelligent self-management and self-healing. During the session you will review the architecture and the deployment process, creating your own virtual software designed storage system, gateways and a make a start on the more advanced features that only SUSE Enterprise Storage 4 can provide. Essential tools to protect your Linux system: your Swiss Army knife During this workshop you will learn to think like a hacker and to defend your system against attack. Different techniques will be used such as firewall tunnelling, session hijacking or sql injection. We will use tools like nmap, OpenVAS or metasploit to check systems for vulnerabilities. Forensic techniques for investigating incidents will also be covered and time allowing will also look at kernel auditing. Linux
Docker: The (complete) Hands On Tutorial This 5-slide, all-demo session will cover the use of Docker as an application container - wrapping up software in a complete filesystem that contains everything it needs to run: code, runtime, system tools, system libraries – anything you can install on a server. This guarantees that it will always run the same, regardless of the environment it is running in. Included in the session: - Installing Docker and base docker images - Running and entering a container - Basic management of containers - Building your own container - Using Portus as the authorization service and front end for Docker registry You should feel comfortable with using Docker at the end of this session. SUSE Manager 3 With Added Salt According to a recent study by Forrester IT spends 70% of its budget on managing its existing environment. SUSE Manager can help reduce this complexity and manage multiple Linux distributions from a single console. Now with version 3, SUSE manager is integrated with the open source Salt software for advanced configuration management. The topics covered in this lab demonstrate the power of this combination and includes: autoyast installation of sles12sp1, bootstrapping clients with salt-minions; migrate service pack from sp1 to sp2; salt formulas – how to create and use it. SUSE
Upgrading SLES11 to SLES12 The world moves on and SUSE released SLES12 sometime ago. (Service pack 2 has already been released). It contains some radical new technology and updated features for administrators. Attend this lab to find out what’s new (for example systemd) and how best to achieve the upgrade for your production servers. SUSE
SUSE Futures, A bonus session As the oldest Enterprise Linux Distribution, SUSE has been at the forefront of innovation that can enable our customers to push forward their modern IT strategy. Come find out about what’s next in our innovation pipeline SUSE
